I was born and raised in the Bronx. The culture, the people and everything of it is me. I want to give back to the community that raised me. I want to create change for good to help the people that nurtured me.

Randy's History...

A born-and-raised New Yorker, Randy has called the corner of Fordham Road and Sedgwick Avenue his home. The child of Dominican immigrants who aspired to realize the American Dream, Randy attended public schools, and, with the assistance of his dedicated teachers and New York State’s Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP), he earned a B.A. in History and Latin American Studies from Skidmore College. Following the completion of his undergraduate studies, he relocated to San Diego to attend the Thomas Jefferson School of Law from which he earned his J.D.

Continuing HIS Education...

Upon completing law school, Randy worked in the Office of New York State Attorney General Eric T. Schneiderman as an intern and was subsequently selected into the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s highly-competitive Law Graduate Fellowship in Washington, D.C.

As a law fellow, Randy worked on Capitol Hill and in the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Now, after having been sworn into the New York State Bar, Randy is eager to utilize his knowledge and unique experience to better District 14.

A changemaker at heart, Randy has consistently delivered results for the historically disadvantaged. While working for the House Judiciary Committee, Randy fought for the rights of women when he defended Planned Parenthood in the face of Republican opposition; he fought for the rights of immigrants – both documented and undocumented – by advising them of their rights; he fought for small business owners by ensuring their property rights; and, while at the FCC, Randy and his colleagues wrote regulations that will protect the privacy and ensure the cybersecurity of Americans for years to come.

After his experience on Capitol Hill, Randy was appointed by former President Barack Obama to serve inside the U.S. Department of Energy. Under the leadership of Secretary Ernest Moniz, Randy helped advance President Obama’s clean energy agenda that promoted market growth and workplace development by connecting investors with green start-ups and non-profit organizations.

WHY THE BRONX?

Randy Abreu looks forward to continuing President Obama’s legacy by fighting relentlessly for the people of District 14.

In Randy, the Bronx finds a leader who cares deeply about his community – a leader that will protect the most vulnerable from housing discrimination and from displacement; a leader that will help usher in a new era of public education that establishes an employment pipeline; a leader that will ensure that every New Yorker has access to affordable legal representation; and a leader that will stand up for the small business owners of the Bronx.

In Randy, the Bronx has a forward-thinking and progressive trailblazer that understands the urgency of the current political climate yet respects the Bronx's historic past.
