ABREU On the Issues
Randy Abreu owes everything that he has to his hometown. In his run for City Council, he is working to give back to the community that raised him and to usher about a bold progressive vision for the Bronx - a more just and more inclusive future that includes all New Yorkers, regardless of their gender, race, religion or immigration status.
CREATING JOBS & ECONOMIC GROWTH
While other parts of the City have experienced economic prosperity, the Bronx has been left by the wayside. Randy will stand up for small businesses; end the stalemates that have cost us economic opportunities; and ensure that our residents get their fair share of jobs from municipal developmental projects.
DEFENDING OUR VALUES
Our Bronx values are not for sale, which is why Randy has always been a champion for women, low income families, immigrants, and every resident of our Borough - no matter what they look like, where they come from, or who they love. As a Congressional staffer, Randy defended Planned Parenthood from extremist Republican threats; fought for the rights of all immigrants, documented and undocumented.
IMPROVING OUR SCHOOLS
As a graduate of the New York City public school system - specifically P.S. 91, M.S./I.S. 206 Ann Mersereau and the High School of American Studies, Randy has a first-hand understanding that access to quality public school education is integral to lifting our community up and our families out of poverty.
ENSURING JUSTICE FOR ALL BRONXITES
As someone who was born and raised in the Bronx, Randy knows that safer streets are within reach but only if we have good relations and respect between the police and the communities they serve. And as a practicing attorney in New York State, he knows that society functions at its best when justice is extended towards all citizens, not just those of privilege.
PROTECTING OUR HEALTH
As a Special Advisor in the Clean Energy Investment Center in the Department of Energy for former President Barack Obama, Randy has a proven track record of building public-private partnerships to expand green energy production, protect the environment, and create green jobs in the community.
EXPANDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING
The Bronx is facing an unprecedented housing crisis, with too many families struggling everyday with the high cost of housing, leading to increased displacement, gentrification and homelessness. Randy believes that the city has an economic and moral mandate to protect tenants from harassment while building housing that is truly affordable for Bronx families.
